RCIA TO START AT ST THOMAS MORE !!!

RCIA is for people who seek to learn more about Christianity and the Catholic Church: the unbaptized, those baptized in other denominations, and unconfirmed Catholics. The process is also great for anyone who has been away from the Church for a time or who just wants learn current Church teachings.

Do you or someone you know want to learn more about Catholicism? If so, think about joining the RCIA process or inviting someone to do so. Sessions begin in late October and continue through May and are held on Thursday Evenings.   Members of St. Thomas More Parish are urged to join with you on the journey as presenters on the core team, as sponsors, or by presenting the weekly Gospel in the “Breaking Open the Word” on Sunday Mornings .

This year we will be holding classes on Thursday evenings beginning October 13th at 7:00 in the lower level meeting room. Call Deacon Ed Goldsmith at 337-4231 for more information.

PreSchool Registration

Register now for our preschool which will start during the 11:00 AM mass on September 18th.     Tuition for the year will be $40.00.   Below is the link to the registration form.

Sacrament of Confirmation Registration

We will be registering high school students in grades 9-12 for the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Thomas More in the Gathering Area after all Masses on the next two weekends: August 13-14 and August 20-21. Families must be registered, active members at St. Thomas More before signing up a student for Confirmation classes. Classes are held on the second Sunday of each month beginning Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 7-8:15pm in the church lower level. Bishop Amos will be here to celebrate our Confirmation Liturgy on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the 5:15pm Mass. Detailed calendars will be given out with the registration packets. Thanksgiving Vacation !! See you at Mass on Thursday

No religious education this coming week – November 23rd thru 28th.    Special Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9:00 AM on Thursday, Novmeber 26th.    Put the bird in the oven, load the family in the van; and come say “thank you” for all that the Lord has given us.

New Church Renews the Old

Many items from the Church on Riverside were incorporated into the construction & art of the new building. Below is a list:

Stone: Ambo, Altar, Presider Chair and the dedication candle holders and the stone on the candlesticks were fashioned from the stone from the Riverside Drive Church by JB Barnhouse, Stonemason. The stone on the baptistry is new but obtained from the same stone quarry (Anamosa).

Wood (Red Oak): refashioned from the former pews was recycled by four very talented carpenters to make eight candlesticks, three planters (Dave Johnson), lectern top for Ambo, shelf for Tabernacle (Vern Miller), fourteen Stations of the Cross, Shelf for Book of the Gospels (John Lundell), benches (Steve Nielsen).

Sanctuary Candle refinished (Art DeArmond).

Four kneelers refinished (Ann Persoon) and reupholstered (Gale Kolbet).

Furniture is also being reused – conference room table, chairs, library shelves, lounge furniture, tables for meetings and serving.

Art: bust of Christ, oil reproduction of St. Thomas More, the Holy Family sculpture, the Risen Christ formerly on our Crucifix and soon in our stairwell, other crosses and crucifixes.

Opening Weekend-St. Thomas More Catholic Church

St. Thomas More Catholic Church-3000 12th Ave. Coralville, IA 52241 officially opens this weekend with a Dedication Mass set for Saturday, November 14th at 4pm with Bishop Amos.

Masses on Sunday, November 15th are at 8:30 A.M. and 11:00 A.M.

What a blessing this will be for our Catholic faith community!  Come, join the worship and celebrate with us!

Welcome to St Thomas More !!! New Address ’3000 12th Avenue – Coralville’

Sunday, November 8th marked end of an era as we celebrated the last mass at our Riverside Drive location.   Raking of the leaves at the Parish Center on Sunday afternoon was followed by moving into the new location at 3000 12th avenue in Coralville.    Bishop Amos will celebrate a “Mass of Dedication” on November 14th beginning at 4:00 in the afternoon.   Following the mass we will celebrate with an “Evening  with Friends”.   This event is a fund raiser for the completion of the lower level meeting rooms.   Dinner will be followed by a silent and live auction of many fabulous items.   Tickets can be obtained by contacting the Parish Office.     There are only a few tickets left, so call as soon as possible to ensure you can attend.  Price per ticket is $100.00.

Regular weekend services will begin on Sunday, November 15th.   Mass times are 8:30 am and 11:00 am on Sunday.    Mass on Saturday will start at 5:15 on Saturday, November 21st.
